RTEMS GSoC 2026 – Seeking Guidance

Hello RTEMS community,

I am Harsha Vardhan, and I’m interested in exploring contributions to RTEMS with the aim of applying for GSoC 2026. I wanted to introduce myself and seek guidance from the community.

Last year, I went through the initial onboarding steps and completed some basic proof-of-work, but I wasn’t able to participate further due to time constraints and uncertainty around project ideas. I’m now revisiting RTEMS and would like to better understand how I can contribute and prepare effectively this time.

My technical background includes:

  • STM32 and ARM based platforms
  • Firmware development
  • System programming

At this stage, I’d appreciate guidance on:

  • Good areas or components to start contributing to
  • Issues or tasks suitable for gaining familiarity with RTEMS
  • General advice for contributers considering RTEMS for GSoC 2026

The first thing to do is to post your “hello world” proof here. And then discuss some of the open projects that may interest you.
