Intro and Proof of Work

Hello everyone my name is Samuel Eke, I am a Computer Science Student in NOUN and I am very interested in working with RTEMS at GSoC 2026 because RTEMS is a company involved in Earth, Space and other Sciences I am passionate about and also have some knowledge about while still researching more into. Although I am very new to programming and have done just about three (3) basic projects in python and JS using VScode and cli, also with the help of AI some of which are on GitHub, I am aiming to be one of the best computer scientist in the world by relevance and contribution so I am looking for a community to help me kickstart my career and aid my learning process, while making meaningful contributions. I am not going to lie to you I am very anxious and don’t know where to start from and I really need help on that, like someone to show me the ropes, I know it might not be easy an I might bump my head a bit as a noob, but I am very determined to not let the fear of that to keep me from trying, that is the only way to get better, as we all know there is nobody who ever started something new that did not fail or bump their head before they got better. So I need like a mentor or guardian who or anyone who can point me to the right direction teach me how to apply to GSoC with RETMS and project I can research about and start woking on, firstly, please how do I go about the proof of work?

I have moved this to the GSoC category.

Please follow the instructions in our GSoC Getting Started Guide. Make sure you have carefully read The RTEMS GSoC Projects Website

Thank you for replying me, I have read THE RETMS GSoC Projects Website and have gone ahead to try and start stetting up my environment I have been at it for days spending over 30hours in development, it has been been very engaging and complex but it seems like I am almost done, honestly I have learned a lot from just tryin to set it up asI am new to Ubuntu, I have cloned the RTEMS repository, attempted to build apps/hello using (.waf build) but have encountered some problems, please what is the current recommended way to build a ‘hello world app’ and how do I post my proof of work?

The directions are stated at Prove you can work on RTEMS in the GSoC Getting Started Guide.

You post screenshots here as your proof.

I have gone through the directions and I am almost done but to be honest I am stuck in the last phase that is the .waf build phase and it is really giving me some headaches unlike the other bumps I had building up to that point, I will attach a screenshot of my slow progress just to show that I have really been in it and I am dedicated… I will be grateful for any ./waf build tips to avoid permission error. I am very happy I embarked on this process because I have really learned alot from the dreaded linux and ubuntu, which was my main objective, I just want to complete this so I can have a shot at contributing in RTEMS

Can you show what you got from completing 2.5. Build a Board Support Package (BSP) — RTEMS User Manual 7.1023b8c (8th January 2026) documentation?

Here is what I got from building BSP

what happened when you ran waf in rtems?

If you’re following the getting started guide, you should be doing it for sparc/sis, not arm/beagleboneblack.

I had to start all over again it was really hectic and, I think my previous build didn’t have all the files included that is why I was running into errors right now I have run ./waf build and I think all my files compile correctly, but still seems like I omitted the test suite, damn I knew this would be tough but it is tougher than usual, I over 8 hours daily trying to make this work and i kepp having problems here and there. GCC for example almost took my life in in downloading installing and compilation and sometimes it breaks due to interruption from my pc and my environment, anyway I managed to get here… how am I looking?

An empty config.ini will not build anything.

omg this is though;
I will just delete it and start all over…
